Former CBI chief Lord Digby Jones will be the special guest speaker at an event called 'Meet the hospital bidders' on Thursday 9 October in West Bromwich. He will use the stage to rally West Midlands construction firms to upskill and be ready to tender for big contracts coming to the region.

‘Meet the hospital bidders’ will take place at the prestigious Bethel Convention Centre in West Bromwich. The all-day networking event is being jointly organised by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, Birmingham City Council and Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust. Their mutual aim is to shine a national spotlight over West Midlands manufacturers – showing how the region’s supply chain is capable of providing everything needed to design, build and run a 21st-century hospital.

Nick Bubalo, Sandwell Council’s Area Director of Regeneration & Economy said the event is both timely and important for the region’s SMEs.

“We want to forge strong links between the region’s supply chain and health sector consortia who design, build and run healthcare facilities," he said. "The £353 million Midland Metropolitan Hospital has just had the green light to be built in Smethwick and we want as many local businesses as possible to be qualified and capable of winning related work.”

The event, which is free to attend, will include seminars and opportunities for SMEs to meet one-to-one with representatives from some of the UK's leading contractors. There will be around 100 exhibitors in the Bethel Convention Centre’s spacious foyer and adjoining suites, while keynote speeches will take place in the impressive auditorium.

Lord Jones will be familiar to the Bethel Convention Centre stage, having launched Sandwell Council and Birmingham City Council’s ‘Meet the City Region buyers’ event there in 2012.

“I’m looking forward to returning to West Bromwich and the Bethel this autumn, and celebrating the engineering excellence of suppliers in our region,” he said. “The organisers of ‘Meet the hospital bidders’ will bring together some of the leading lights in the construction industry – and with its buzzing atmosphere and location in the UK’s industrial heart, I know the Bethel will be the perfect place to do this.”

At the event Lord Jones will also formally launch the West Midlands Virtual Hospital – a pioneering digital procurement tool to link the region’s suppliers with major hospital buyers.

‘Meet the hospital bidders’ takes place on Thursday 9 October 2014 at the Bethel Convention Centre (Kelvin Way, West Bromwich B70 7JW) from 8:30am (for registration) to 3pm.
